Program Details
For Beginners
Our events are fun and accessible opportunities for beginners to explore the woods and wetlands on our farm, learn about sustainability and ecology, and develop hands-on skills for a variety of environmentally minded projects.
The most important thing for beginners to know before attending is to dress for the weather. All of our events take place outdoors, and since we currently do not have a temperature-controlled indoor space on the farm, comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear are necessary to make the most of your visit.
For Groups
Whether you’re a teacher looking for field trip, a community group interested in agriculture, social justice, or environmental restoration, or you’re simply curious about what George Jones Farm offers, we'd love to have your group join us!
All of our group programs are by appointment only and designed for groups ages 12+.

For Families
Most of our events are perfect for families, unless otherwise noted in the event description.
If you're looking for something specifically geared toward kids, our summer Farm Labs series is a great option! Farm Labs are designed for children and families to explore nature while learning more about the environment and ecology.
Location & Accessibility
Location Information
All of our events take place at the George Jones Memorial Farm and Wetland Preserve (GJF), operated and managed by the City Fresh team. GJF is an educational and experimental farm and nature preserve located one mile east of Oberlin College campus, and serves as the home base of our flagship Farm Box program.
The farm has a rich history of collaboration with Oberlin College, Lorain County Community College, and a wide variety of partners and community members throughout Lorain and Cuyahoga counties. With an abundance of ecological diversity, GJF offers meaningful opportunities for aspiring farmers and nature enthusiasts alike.
Since 2024, GJF has opened its fields to aspiring farmers through the New Farmer Incubator, an innovative program providing land access and resources to empower the next generation of farmers.
We were built by this community, and we'd love for you to be a part of it. Join us at the farm throughout the year for events, workshops, youth activities, hiking, volunteering, and more!
Accessibility
While we strive to make our events as accessible as possible, our space is a working farm, and there are some accessibility limitations. Here’s what participants can expect:
Parking: We do not currently have designated ADA parking available on site.
Restrooms: We do not currently have ADA-accessible restrooms available on site.
Terrain: Trails and terrain throughout the farm are largely unpaved, uneven, and may vary depending on weather and farm conditions.
Obstacles: As a working farm, the property includes bumps, humps, uneven ground, and other natural or farm-related obstacles. Participants should also be aware that some areas may be difficult to navigate with mobility devices.
