Visit event →Crown Point welcomes anyone who wants time outdoors on a working farm, with programs for ages 3 to 93. No experience or reservation is needed. Walk the free trails any day, in shoes you don’t mind getting muddy, and bring a refillable water bottle. Expect quiet and open space rather than a theme park. To get involved, try a beginner-friendly community garden plot, become a volunteer, or the Seasons on the Land guided hikes among many more programs throughout the year.
Soil to Soul field trips are custom-built for schools, homeschool co-ops, scout troops, colleges, and community or youth groups, from kindergarten through college. Groups do real farm tasks like animal care, garden work, and trail exploration on 115 certified-organic acres (USDA Certified Organic since 1994), grounded in social-emotional learning. Pricing is customized by group size, visit length, and number of sessions. There’s no fixed group size or required chaperone ratio, and staff will help you plan the right number of adults. Scout troops can work toward badges and projects, including Eagle Scout and Gold Award opportunities. Give 4 to 6 weeks’ notice and request a visit on Crown Point’s website, or ask about bringing the experience to your school or community space. Volunteer groups are welcome for gardening, events, and land care, and the 1910 Century Barn is available for weddings and private rentals.
Visit the goats, chickens, and Kune Kune pigs, walk about 5 miles of trails, explore the labyrinth, watch for pond life, or pack a picnic, all self-guided. Please stay out of animal enclosures unless you’re with a staff member, and keep voices calm and hands to yourself. For more structure, Summer Farm & Science Camp serves grades 1 to 8 in three one-week sessions, with hands-on animal care, kayaking on the pond, and campership aid available. Seasonal events have included a petting zoo, and Backyard Chickens 101 is a workshop for families curious about keeping chickens at home. Check the calendar for current dates.
Crown Point is at 3220 Ira Road, Akron, OH 44333, in Bath Township just outside Cuyahoga Valley National Park. GPS and standard map apps will take you to the entrance. Park in the gravel/grass visitor lot between the two red barns, then stop at the information kiosk at the entrance to the lower Century Barn for a trail map and trail entrances. The 1910 Century Barn is a good landmark, and the office is staffed weekdays 8 AM to 4 PM.
All ages and abilities are welcome. Because this is a working farm on natural terrain, please plan ahead. We don’t currently have designated ADA parking, so contact us and we’ll help arrange the closest drop-off. A seasonal ADA-accessible restroom is on site May through October. Off-season, no restroom is available on weekends, and on weekdays one is in the White Farmhouse with the staff offices. Trails are mowed grass, dirt, and gravel through meadow, wetland, and woods, and can be muddy or uneven, especially after rain. Some paved areas are around the offices.
An all-terrain wheelchair is available first come, first served (call ahead to reserve it), and a release waiver is required. The labyrinth is in grass, can be narrow in places, and isn’t suited for wheelchairs. Benches are along the grounds, and the meditation garden is open for self-guided use. For stairs and obstacles on your planned route, contact us and we’ll describe it. Email info@crownpointecology.org or call 330-668-8992 and we’ll help plan your visit.
Grounds are open dawn to dusk, 365 days a year, except in unsafe weather and in some areas during weddings, private rentals, and large events like Dead at Harvest or Taste of Earth. Please stay on marked trails, and don’t pick flowers or harvest crops. Leashed, well-behaved pets are welcome on the trails. Fishing at the pond is catch-and-release only, and swimming isn’t allowed. A suggested donation helps keep the land open to everyone.
