Visit event →No prior rock climbing experience is needed to climb at Rock Mill—that’s one of the best things about bouldering! We make it easy for new climbers to get started, with all of our green and yellow routes designed for beginners.
Getting started is simple. After watching our orientation video, signing a waiver, and reviewing our gym rules, you’re ready to climb! The only equipment you’ll need is a pair of climbing shoes, which are available to rent for $5. Just wear comfortable clothing, and you’re all set.
If you’d like a little extra guidance, join us for Bouldering 1 on Saturday afternoons. This workshop-style class introduces the fundamentals of bouldering technique and helps you build confidence on the wall. You’ll learn with a coach alongside other new climbers in a fun, small-group setting.

Rock Mill is a great place for the whole family! We welcome youth ages 7+ to try bouldering and have plenty of youth shoe sizes. As a general rule, Rock Mill requires a minimum of 1:4 ratio of adult to youth climbers, unless prior arrangements have been made with Rock Mill staff. As a safety precaution, we ask that you please supervise your kids while they're in the gym.
